Origins of Canadian Multiculturalism Day

In 2002, the Canadian government designated that June 27th would officially be Canadian Multiculturalism Day. It was stated that the long legacy of diversity of Canada should be marked and celebrated. It is part of the Celebrate Canada series that finishes with Canada Day (July 1).

Canada’s history includes contributions from different ethnicities and nationalities. To recognize this, in 1988 the Canadian Multiculturalism Act was passed, which allowed the protection of Canadian multiculturalism within a legal framework. After over 35 years from that day, the interconnections between cultures have only grown stronger and Canadian Multiculturalism Day is celebrating this long history of friendship.

Prism wants to express our deep gratitude to everyone who shapes our community equally, making it a better place to live.
