We just celebrated 50 years of Toronto International Film Festival, and another event for movie buffs is just around the corner: a spooky and charismatic Toronto After Dark Film Festival 2025. The event will take place from October 15 to 19, 2025, at Scotiabank Theatre (259 Richmond St W).
This is not your regular film festival – this is a community of people who love their films a little more intensely, a place for all horror, sci-fi, and cult movie lovers, and definitely a ‘something else.’

The 18th edition of Toronto After Dark Film Festival will open with Johannes Roberts’ “PRIMATE” – a wild creature feature that starts as your typical vacation film, but will unleash the wildest in everyone, in a “primal tale of horror and survival” against a rabid chimpanzee.
This 5-day festival will feature 10 premieres and 29 extraordinary short films, such as “DID YOU KNOW THERE’S A BLACK HOLE IN YOUR REFRIGERATOR?” made by Joseph McMurray and Leonard Farr.
This is the first time that the festival will be celebrated without its founder Adam Lopez, who passed away. In his honour, the audience award will be renamed the “Adam Lopez Audience Award”. Canadian artist Gary Pullin will present an illustrated tribute in Adam’s honour. It will be used on the festival t-shirts, and all proceeds from its sale will be donated to Doctors Without Borders, a charity that Adam considered very important.
