Tribute Communities Centre 30-Year Agreement with Oak View Group

Lifestyle & CommunityNews

We are pleased to announce that the City of Oshawa recently broke the news to all sports fans and beyond – the results of a lengthy negotiation regarding the Tribute Communities Centre (TCC), our region’s premier sports and entertainment facility, have been finalized. The agreement involved the City of Oshawa, Oshawa Generals and Oak View Group, which will manage the TCC and modernize the venue as part of a new plan that includes a $50 million investment by the City.

The agreement is a turning point in the history of TCC and the Oshawa Generals as it represents not only a long-term agreement but also a new chapter in development. Under it, the Generals will play at Tribute Communities Centre until 2055 and Oak View Group will manage it for the same term. Oak View Group has managed TCC since it’s opening in 2006, but the current agreement expands their involvement and gives them more opportunities to improve the TCC. The following plans have already been announced :

  • Expansion of capacity from 5500 to 7000 people.
  • Expansion of the main entrance and renovation of the concourse areas.
  • Improvement of team areas and player amenities.
  • Renovation and relocation of the Oshawa Sports Hall of Fame to a 24-hour area in front of the TCC.

All of these improvements will allow Oshawa to host Memorial Cup and other sports and entertainment events on a new level.

Since the arena’s opening in 2006, TCC has been home to the Generals and main venue for many different major events. Now this rich history will be given a new direction and will be able to continue to delight Oshawa’s community.

Construction will begin in 2027 and will last about two years. Work will be done in sections so as not to affect the Generals schedule, other sporting events, concerts and events. The $50 million will be based on a variety of sources, including agreements with the Oshawa Generals and Oak View Group, as well as seat revenue, and will not influence the tax rate.
